Dr. Andrew O’Dowd’s work spans Interaction Design, Digital Humanities, UX Product Design, and Cultural & Heritage Tourism with over a decade of professional and academic experience across the UK, Europe, and China. Across these sectors, his focus resides in how emerging technologies can transform cultural experience, storytelling, sustainability, well-being, and ecological awareness.

He has led and collaborated on human-centered projects with cultural and creative industries partners from the UK, Ireland, South Africa, and China. These partnerships demonstrate his ability to bring design, technology, and cultural practices together to create interactive, meaningful, and globally relevant experiences.

Andrew’s practice includes immersive media design, future heritage design, kinetic art, AI-driven cultural design frameworks, and museum design projects. He brings his expertise in computation, craft, evidence-based practice, and speculative design to explore how technology can support richer human and more-than-human relationships with place and environment at local and global levels.

As an academic, Andrew leads and teaches in creative technology, interactive media, and interdisciplinary creative practices, specialising in AI-enhanced design, UX, creative coding, and digital innovation in the humanities. He has developed Agile-inspired project management frameworks to structure studio work and collaborative projects, embedding iterative development, user-centred methods, and reflective sprint cycles into his teaching. His philosophy emphasises real-world collaboration, critical design thinking, and project-based learning that connects students with industry partners and contemporary global challenges.

Across research, teaching, and practice, Andrew is committed to shaping the future of culture, technology, and society through interdisciplinary design, creative innovation, and responsible technological development.
